Ramos Pinto Duas Quintas Classic 2018 750ml

The scenic Duoro Valley runs across the north of Portugal near Porto, and the wines are produced from a heap of different grape varieties including but not limited to; Bastardo, Mourisco tinto, Tinta Amarela, Tinta Barroca, Tinta Cão, Tinta Roriz, Touriga..... aand so on. What gets me about red wines from the region is their tendency to be equal parts bright and fresh while threatening in colour and aroma to be massive. This is a classic example of the style I love from here; it pours an impenetrable inky colour and smells colossal - berries by the bucketload and a big whiff of chocolate - something else I often find in this neck of the woods. Despite what the nose suggests, the palate is medium bodied, and really alive, vibrant juicy red with a great lick of acidity in the finish and a great herb and spice finish. Really super stuff.
