Franco Mondo Nizza 2016 750ml

Nizza is a relatively new DOC which is to Barbera as Barolo is to Nebbiolo. It's up in Italy's northwest where the vineyards are high altitude and cool climate, but very sunny. This pours a lovely deep crimson colour with a bright hue, and smells fantastic; really pretty, perfumed nose of strawberry, raspberry, liquorice and spices. The palate is medium to full bodied and continues the berry and spice theme, with really intense flavours wrapped around a tight, focussed frame. It's exquisitely balanced and has a tremendous flavour to weight ratio. Mighty, mighty wine and a tremendous expression of Barbera. 14.5% alc/vol.
