Domaine Defialy Willow Run Red Blend 2022 750ml
Domaine Defialy Willow Run Red Blend 2022 750ml
A field blend from Micah's Willow Run vineyard in ... mind blank... Faraday?.. I'm sure it's Faraday. Macedon Ranges GI in any case. Syrah, Cabernet Franc, Merlot, Pinot Noir & Cabernet Sauvignon; oxidatively handled, amphora and old oak involved, 12 months bottle age prior to release. Strap in folks, this is going to be one hell of a tasting note...
Light red colour, bricky at the edge, a *really* quirky wine to sniff; at first... terracotta pots, not usually something I'd like to put in my mouth, though if you were to serve a concoction of Ribena, Cherry & Dr Pepper from it... well, I'm sold, and that's what this smells like. A blend of these three flavours in the best possible way, served in a frickin' terracotta pot. The palate is again quirky, so silky and slippery, cherries and blackcurrant then... nuts? Brazil, hazelnut areas, a hint of spice, a whiff of cola and that Dr Peppery vibe again through the finish. This shit's weird man, and I can't put my finger on why, but heck, I love it. And I think if you're a thrill seeker, you probably will too.
