Blood Moon Storm Cabernet 2021 750ml

Blood Moon Storm Cabernet 2021 750ml

It feels a little bittersweet knowing that the last time I'm writing about a wine from this particular vineyard. The challenges of managing fruit from different regions, some of which are labelled a phylloxera risk have proven too much for Mr Aulich, so he's decided to simplify his processes and save himself the headache. I can understand and appreciate that, however Matt's method of handling Cabernets, combined with this particular site's terroir played a big part in me falling back in love with the grand old grape (and it's cousin.) Here we have wild fermented Cabernet Sauvignon & Cabernet Franc, 13 months in French Oak, one-third of which was new. Deep inky purple, bright crimson at the edge. The inviting nose offers up cassis, tomato vine, cigar box, cedar, cinnamon quill and a little mint. The palate is medium-bodied, vibrant and lively up front; taut, dry and grippy down back. The cassis and spice flavours suggested by the nose dictate the terms here. It's lovely modern Australian Cabernets that I'm pleased to have, but will be extra sad to see leave.
