Black & Ginger Lucy's Rose 2023 750ml

80% Great Western Shiraz, 20% Gewurztraminer from Henty, named after Hadyn's soon-to-be wife, Lucy. This is a quirky departure from Black & Ginger's tried & true formula of safe, flavoursome and balanced wines, and when I thought about giving this wine the big tick, I thought about Chardonnay. For the longest while, everyone wanted lean, minerally, briny Chardonnay. Then suddenly, just at random, people started asking for Chardy with a bit of butteriness and timber. Perhaps there's a parallel with Rose; for the longest while we have been inserting the driest, most safe, minerally textured, bone-dry Rose, and this may well prove to be a little ahead of the curve.  Pale strawberry coloured, with a delicate watermelon and strawberry aroma, the palate is really weighty, generous almost creamy textured, packed with sweet berry flavours and a wickedly spicy, finish that clears up the sweetness beautifully. If you were to pair this with something packing some chilli heat, you'd be in for a damn good time.
