Two beer trends have emerged late winter, early spring of 2021 - cold IPA & red IPA. There isn't quite enough cold IPA around yet to do a pack, but boy howdy is there red..!
What we're looking for here is west-coast bitterness with malty, roasty, almost toffee-ish flavours from amber ale.
This pack includes;
Ocean Reach Frank Moses Red Rye IPA 375ml 6.5%
We heckin' love Rye. It imparts a spicy, earthy interesting flavour into a big malty bitter IPA. Superb.
Fury & Son Red IPA 375ml 6.1%
More red, than IPA - imagine a good, intense, hoppier version of a once very popular Amber ale named after a Sydney criminal and you'd be close to the mark.
White Bay Rusted on Red IPA 355ml 7.0%
Speaking of Sydney, here's a Sydney brewer we haven't played with much here, but they make real good beer. This one's no exception, red IPA with plenty of cowbell.
8 Wired Tall Poppy India Red Ale 440ml 7.0%
A seasonal release from one of our perennial favourites. Big hops, big malts, big can, big love. BIG ENERGY. GO 8 WIRED!
The Mill x Boomstick Glassware Army of Darkness Imperial Red IPA 440ml 9.0%
A bloody big mouthful by name, and by nature. This leaves nothing in the tank. Big, bold, boozy and brash. Party on!
Badlands Brewery Jaxon Red IPA 440ml 5.9%
If you've not heard of them, Badlands are up in Orange, NSW and are cranking out really polite, clever beers. Not showstoppers, but they're complex, balanced and calm - and this red IPA of theirs continues the theme.
