The Lindsay Collection Old Mac Merlot 2021 750ml
I haven't done much with Merlot since I've been here, which is a bit daft of me as it's an underrated, and underappreacaited grape variety. How we got from wines inspired by Chateau Petrus to soft flabby juice is one of Australia's great wine shames. Anyhow, on with the show.
Pours a lovely vibrant purple, bright at the rim and smells divine; a basket of fresh red berries sitting on a lovely Chesterfield couch by an open fire. Fuck that's wanky Ryan. Red fruit. Leather. Touch of smoke. Silky palate with ripe blackberry, raspberry and blueberry flavours accompanied by leather & tobacco notes, again the touch of smoke and cedar. It's beautifully structured, the tannins very fine and integrated, the balance of fruit and savoury is spot on here. This is an absolute steal at $20.
I screwed up the first time I bought it. I forgot to add the 29% tax on to the wholesale price, and therefore I have had to nudge the price up a little. Sorry!
