Malmsbury is the picturesque little town at just off the Calder Hwy that you'd pass through en route to Daylesford, Kyneton, or Castlemaine. It has a great park to stop at and an awesome stone railway viaduct. The quality of this vino adds another compelling reason to stop and smell the roses when next you're in that part of the world. Made by Patrick Underwood of Little Reddie Wines, this Cabernet is deep purple in colour, with a bright purple rim, and smells incredible. Blackcurrant soothers, a little leather, some pencil shavings and a little smidge of mint. The palate is medium-bodied and juicy up front; bursts of cassis, a little liquorice and spice then savoury, stemmy back palate with a taut, dry finish. It's a deliciously pure expression of Cabernet Sauvignon, more wines made in this style may see the popularity of the grand old grape improve.
