Nebbiolo made by Alex Byrne (Noisy Ritual) from fruit grown on Mount Camel, in the Heathcote G.I. Damn this dude has his fingers in many pies! Cherry juice red, a little brick at the rim. The expressive nose packs in lots of rich ripe dark red fruit, a little liqorice, leather, and spice. The palate is medium-bodied and for a wine of its grape variety and price; pretty flippin' tasty. Ripe, almost jammy plum, cherry, blackberry fruit up front, then a herby, bitter orange and baking spice back palate, very fine, firm tannins frame it all nicely. This is a really good example of how fun Nebbiolo can be, a demonstration that it doesn't always have to be austere and challenging.
