If whiskies could talk, you'd need an hour to hear the story this whisky needs to tell you. This is the 'false start' batch, originally destined to be batch #1 until some anxiety kicked in at the distillery and they thought they'd ruined it. Shortly after Sam & Chantal announced that they'd buggered this batch up, we went up to the distillery to give them a cuddle and offer our support. Naturally, we wanted to taste the whisky in question. Quite confidently I announced to Sam that this stuff is fine. In fact, it's better than fine. Release it. He wasn't so sure, so I took a sample away and showed some other whisky minds and customers - the consensus was that this whisky is indeed excellent, and with some coaxing and much thought, Sam & Chantal decided to release it - albeit with red splatters all over the bottle. Hopefully never to be repeated.
The whisky pours a pale gold colour and smells of barley sugar, chocolate and cinnamon. On the palate, it's bright, fresh and very clean. Really appealing stuff. Chocolate, vanilla, a touch of fudge with a hint of smoke and spearmint. Really opulent texture. We think it's excellent. It's bloody good value for money, too. 46.0%
