We thoroughly enjoy crazy ideas in this place and Hawkers, so when Hawkers had a crazy idea we were on board.
This whisky was produced by distilling a batch of 12 month barrel-aged Imperial Stout at Alchemy Distillers in Healesville. They then took this spirit and put it back in the barrels that once held the beer for two years. The release has been timed to coincide with the release of their Imperial Stouts, and it makes one hell of a boilermaker. A thousand bottles were produced.
The nose offers an eclectic array of appealing aromas; ginger snap biscuits, Schezuan pepper, coffee, chocolate, terracotta and something minty/herbal that I can't quite put my finger on. On the palate it's medium to full-bodied, intensely malty, spicy, and dry - with an Amaro-like herbaceous background track playing quite loudly. It has a drying, slightly astringent finish with a very long minty, spicy aftertaste. I love it, but do not believe that everyone will, this is a whisky for thrill-seekers. 43.0% alc/vol.
It is open to taste in our Coburg store, alongside over a hundred other spirits. Feel free to taste it next time you're in.
