The Gimp is a Shiraz produced by Duane Coates MW of Coates Wine. Duane is one of only just a handful of people in Australia to have attained the Master of Wine qualification from the Institue of Masters of Wine in the UK. It's a mighty feat, given there are circa 400 globally. Rather aptly, this is a mighty wine. A huge broody monster from a warm year in McLaren Vale, The Gimp pours a dense deep colour and has huge aromas of berries, vanilla & chocolate. The palate is full bodied, rich in texture and carries intense flavours of berries, vanilla and hints of spice and liqourice through the finish. A big bold thrillseeker's red that's good now, or for the next decade. Incredibly hedonistic drinking at a rather modest price.
