It's not often we look at a wine by Coates and can say no, this curiously named vino is no exception. It is a wine designed to be the polar opposite of another of their wines, The Gimp. Where The Gimp is hedonistic, silly and fun - this wine is polished, classy and refined. Produced from grapes grown in Kuitpo in the Adelaide Hills GI.
Really bright lively crimson colour, fresh bright raspberry colour at the edge. The nose is really spicy; white pepper, clove, cinnamon and nutmeg then a little tobacco, cedar sitting above red currant. The palate is medium bodied, quite "meaty" like some Rhone wines are; currant and cranberry, a little mint. Tannins are well integrated and incredibly fine. Really long pepper and subtle mint finish. It's a great Australian take on a classic French style.
