Caaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaardonay made by Alex Byrne of Noisy Ritual fame from grapes grown near Ballarat at a place called Coghills Creek. Deep gold in colour, this wine offers up an extensive array of aromas; olive sourdough, water crackers, apricot, shortbread, peach and nuts. The palate is medium-weight and is here to party. The exuberant grapefruit, peach, honeysuckle, dry, biscuit, nougat and nut flavours are smile-inducing, as is the crisp, dry finish - almost unexpectedly so, given how boisterous the flavours offered, it's so bold you'd expect it to be flabby and fall over, but it doesn't, it's just beautifully judged. The long savoury nutty aftertaste makes me pine for more, this stuff is absolutely grouse. The combination of a cool site, warm vintage and a winemaker that's mad about Chardonnay is irresistible here I reckon.
