The 2020 Sang de Lune Shiraz was made from fruit grown on Bests' Sugarloaf vineyard in Rhymney, which is sensational Shiraz country. This one was made in the typical Matt Aulich fashion, let the fruit do the talking. One whole bunch batch, one destemmed batch wild yeast fermented and pressed into old French oak, before being bottled without fining, additions or filtration. It's vegan friendly, too.
It pours a really deep dark crimson colour, and has a ripper of a nose - it's lifted and perfumed, red and blackberries, a pinch of herb & spice. The palate is light to medium-bodied, fine, initially fruity, then savoury and spicy. Very fine tannins. Lovely balance and texture. It's a bit of a choose your own adventure wine; easily smashable - but complex enough to nerd out over should you wish to interrogate it. 13.5% alc/vol.
