Black & Ginger The Gypsy Vermentino 2022 750ml

One of the recurring themes from the 2022 vintage is a number of our smaller producers who rely on grapes grown by others, they had to look further afield than they traditionally would, thanks to a big drop in grape volumes. Hence the name Gypsy, and the shocked reaction on my face when the winemaker, and enthusiastic spruiker of all things Western Victoria had a vino made from Alpine Valleys fruit. Pale straw in colour, with a big nose of ripe pear, peach, apricot, lime, and spice, this wine is medium-bodied, generously weighted gluggable fun, without any extended skin contact, funk or other quirky bits. It's clean as a whistle and finishes crisp, citrussy and dry. If you're one of those folks who like a Pinot Gris with a bit of oomph, this will scratch an adjacent itch.
