Black & Ginger Shiraz 2021 750ml

Black & Ginger Shiraz 2021 750ml

Shiraz grapes grown on a special plot of my mates Hadyn & Lucy's vineyard in Rhymney, just outside Great Western in Victoria. Shortly after they settled the property and moved in Hadyn and his mum Lily pruned this section of the block, she loved to help out. Tragically, Lily passed away not long thereafter.

Hadyn, having cut his teeth on Shiraz, and establishing a reputation for doing a great job with the grape did a typical Hadyn thing "f*@k Shiraz, everyone does it, want to do something different...." had sworn off making the stuff, but the temptation proved too strong to not make one given the spectacular fruit this section of the property grew in 2021.

Impenetrable colour; incredible aromas, blackberry, liquorice, pepper, grilled meats, something floral and lifted in there. The palate is ripe, plush and generous. Early it is full of ripe juicy blackcurrant, fleshy blood plum, then herbs, twigs, blueberry. At half time, it takes on a more savoury, gently spiced character; white pepper, bacon grease, taut acid, plums and a little chocolate wafting in and out. Very fine, velvety tannins, and beautifully balanced acidity cleans it all up. A magnificent wine, and a very fine tribute to a magnificent lady. Very very good now, but will improve and drink well for a decade. I am very proud of you Hadyn.

$46.00 each, or $42.59 in any wine dozen buy.
